Delaware Liberty Fund
Candidate Survey

There are an estimated 50,000 gays and lesbians living in Delaware. If each and every one of us votes for the candidates endorsed by the Delaware Liberty Fund, we can affect the outcome in every district election. If the Gay and Lesbian community desires to have legislation such as HB99 enacted, we must all participate in the political process by: working on campaigns, contributing money to the DLF and candidate campaigns, and voting.

Prior to endorsing candidates, the Delaware Liberty Fund sent a survey form to all candidates. The survey, along with public statements made by the candidates, and previous voting records were used in determining candidates for endorsement. The following are the questions that candidates were asked in the survey:

Please rate these eight questions on a scale of : 1 (Do Not Support), 2 (probably will not support), 3 (unsure at this time), 4 (most likely will support), 5 (Strongly Support)

1. SB141 would add “sexual orientation” to all nondiscrimination laws of the state of Delaware. If a similar piece of legislation is introduced in the next session of the legislature will you support the bill?

2. Would you support civil marriage for same sex couples?

3. Would you support the creation of civil unions for same sex couples?

4. SB10 would extend employee benefits to domestic partners of Delaware State Government employees. Would you support implementing benefits for the domestic partners of state employees?

5.  Do you support the right of qualified parents who are gay and lesbian to adopt children?

6. You will have the opportunity to appoint and hire Delawareans to assist you in your office, and will strive for the most qualified candidates. Will you appoint well-qualified, openly gay and lesbian persons to key positions?

7. Will you oppose any act proposing an amendment to the Delaware constitution relating to same sex relationships?
